Swans’ finals bid

SWAN Hill Soccer Club’s youth team will fight it out with Strathdale for a berth in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League grand final on Sunday.

The Swans have shown sustained improvement this year and will start a genuine chance to be the first team to qualify for the decider, after they knocked of Strathdale in the final home and away game of the season last weekend.

Swan Hill’s 3-1 win at home was the only defeat inflicted on Strathdale’s youth team all season.

Tyson Fox, Cooper Fox and Ali Al-Hasani all found the back of the net for the home side.

The Swans’ Division 2 side takes on Eaglehawk in a sudden-death final, with a spot in the preliminary final up for grabs.

The match against Strathdale last Sunday saw the Swans go down 4-3, but Swan Hill will be confident against Eaglehawk knowing they got up 3-1 when the sides met back in Round 9.

Swan Hill’s Tony DiPalma said the youth side had put on a “fantastic display of soccer” against Strathdale.

“Swan Hill came out with confidence and showed the top team we are a force to be reckoned with in the finals,” he said.

The youth game kicks off at 11am, with the Division 2 contest to follow at 1pm. Both games are at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve.
