Three dominant displays

FANS witnessed three dominant displays of football in Mallee Football League Round 9 action on Saturday.

Demons def Roos

WALPEUP Underbool hosted traditional rivals Ouyen United at Underbool.

The Roos have wound back the clock over the past few weeks and have been playing some good footy after a slow start to the season.

It was Walpeup Underbool that got hold of the footy early but was left to rue missed shots on goal, kicking 3.5 to Ouyen’s four goals straight in the first quarter.

The Demons dominated the second term as they applied pressure in numbers and piled on seven goals, while holding their opponents goalless.

Walpeup Underbool set about reducing the 55-point half-time deficit in the third term but was unable to capitalise enough with the wind and could only reduce the margin back to 42 points by the final change.

United ran away with the match and came away with a percentage boosting 60-point victory.

Dom Leach had a day out in front of the goals for the Demons with five, as did Bradley Vallance, while Jason Hahnel kicked three and Jordan Manley snagged two.

Ben Gregg was best on ground along with Vallance and Leach.

For the Roos, Wade Champion booted a trio of majors, while Matt Palmer, David Piasente, and Chris Lynch were the better players.

Blues def Cats

THE undefeated Beulah proved too strong for the reigning premiers when they travelled to Woomelang on Saturday.

Beulah controlled most of the play but wasteful shots on goal meant that it was Woomelang Lascelles which took a two-point lead into the second quarter.

The Cats got a couple of goals early in the second and looked for all money like they were going to run away with the match but Beulah showed some spirit and fought its way back into the match.

A string of goals saw the Blues take a 12-point lead into the long break.

With the wind at their backs, the visitors broke away in the third term, kicking six goals to three and stretching the deficit out even further.

The heat and run had gone out of the game by the final quarter and it was Beulah which was victorious at the final siren, winning by 61 points.

Dennis Redden was dominant in the Beulah forward line again with eight goals, while Shaun Monohan, Jason Turnbull and Scott Smith managed two each.

Monohan put in another best on ground display and was well supported by Callum Buchannan and Tim Sandford.

Jayden Lonergan kicked four goals for Woomelang Lascelles, while Nyaburu Kelly booted three.

Cat Brodie Adcock was hard at the ball all day and was in the best along with teammates Jack Shannahan and Jamie Church.

Tigers def Lakers

JEPARIT Rainbow remains winless after hosting Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers in a one-sided match at Jeparit on Saturday.

The Tigers weren’t in a charitable mood as they dominated the first quarter, kicking seven goals to none.

Jeparit Rainbow regrouped in the second quarter and played a better brand of football, reducing the deficit to 32 points at half-time and getting back into the game.

With the aid of a handy breeze, the Tigers controlled the football and broke the game wide open as they held their opponents scoreless and kicked four goals of their own.

Sea Lake Nandaly lifted again in the final quarter and extended the margin further again as they ran out comfortable 72-point victors.

Cliff Ryan kicked four goals for the Tigers, with Simon Weekley kicking three and Joseph Summerhayes, Lachlan Gilbert and Jarrod Arentz booting two each.

Luke Martin and Lance Brown were the better players for the Tigers.

There were no multiple goal scorers for Jeparit Rainbow, while Luke Martin, Tyler Edelsten, and Elliot Bath were among the better players.
