Rewarded for brilliant effort

SWAN Hill Soccer Club’s youth side took on another Bendigo Amateur Soccer League heavyweight in Spring Gully on Sunday and were rewarded for a brilliant team effort with their third straight win.

The Swans dominated the game from start to finish with Tyson Fox scoring a hat-trick and a single goal to Shannon Rain.

Swan Hill’s defence was as solid as it has been throughout the season with a fantastic line up holding the Gully forwards to only two goals.

Jack Dickinson, Justyn Moser and Anthony Lewin were among the better players, while an outstanding effort from Cooper Fox saw him best on ground.

Swan Hill keeper Ben Lewin was also caught up in the action with numerous diving and leaping saves but the most courageous was to save a penalty, maintaining the Swans’ two goal buffer.

The midfielders firing on all cylinders providing some awesome passes to the forwards made it a great game to watch.

Coach Tony Di Palma said he has been happy with the boy’s abilities and maturity that they have shown in last three weeks.

“We’re also excited in welcoming back Ali Al Hasani which will take his place in this week’s clash against Epsom at home. This should prove to be another good game,” he said.

Meanwhile, the reserves game was also a very close contest with some of the youth playing a second game to fill the spots of absent reserve players.

For most of the first half the ball went back and forth with a few attempts on goals but none hitting the back of the net.

Some good passes from Brenton Box made it through to midfielder Joseph Pino but were shut down by the Spring Gully defence.

Both teams were determined to score but it stayed 0-0 at half-time.

Spring Gully came out firing in the second half with some good passages of play and loads of shots at goals but Swan Hill keeper Chris Lewin was on fire saving all that come his way even having the luck of hitting the post and bouncing back out to be cleared by the defence.

About 20 minutes into the second half spring gully took a throw in just past the half way line in their forward that caught the swan hill defence not manned up and the player went on to score .

This was the only goal for the game.

With two draws and two losses to date, the Swan Hill reserves side will be hoping to put a win on the board at home this weekend against Epsom.
