Chairperson gives back

THE Central Murray Football Netball League will come under the guidance of a woman for the first time in 2014.

A decade after first joining the in 2003 — where she served three years as president — Brenda Brady has taken on the role of chairperson for this season.

Brady first joined the Central Murray Football Netball League board in 2011 when the league’s two-year football and netball trial merger got underway.

After serving as treasurer in 2012, she performed the roles of treasurer and deputy chairperson last season.

Brady said after many years as a player and a club delegate, taking on administrative roles was a way to give back to the league.

After being involved in the early stages of football/netball merger talks way back in 2008, she was approached to join the board when the two-year trial was formally announced.

“In the past, the football clubs were separate from the netball and junior clubs. The merger of all three makes the clubs more of a community with more resources,” Brady said.

And for Brady it is the ability to get the job done that is central to her approach to serving on the board.

“I don’t want to make gender an issue in this role… it’s about doing the job for the benefit of the league and the communities our clubs represent,” she said.

To that end, Brady said there were four main challenges for the league to tackle.

“For our league to continue to be successful we must support all clubs by way of player participation at all levels; professional administrators; accredited coaches; and umpire [recruitment and retention],” Brady said.

The St Mary MacKillop College careers adviser said she would bring a consultative approach to her role on the board.

“It’s not about our vision of the CMFNL it’s about bringing together the objectives of all the clubs and then working to make them a successful reality,” Brady said.
