“TREAT all snake bites as venomous” is the message to remember this summer.
As the weather warms up, and people begin to enjoy the outdoors, so too do the wildlife — and snakes are no exception.
Between October 2012 and February 2013, Swan Hill District Health’s emergency department treated three people for snake bites, with two of these admitted to the acute ward and the other sent home.
Two other people were treated for snake-related injuries — one injured their
knee as a result of trying to avoid a snake, while the other fractured a wrist
trying to kill a snake with a shovel.
