SWAN HILL was cleaning up yesterday after a storm packing winds of more than 100km/h swept across Victoria on Monday night, causing damage and blackouts.
Winds of up to 108km/h whipped through Swan Hill in what SES unit controller Rob Merrett called the worst storm in the past decade.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Scott Williams said the wind speeds recorded Monday night would be considered high at any time of the year.
“It was a warm day with temperatures hovering just shy of 30 degrees at the time of the wind,” Mr Williams said. “Light rain falling into dry clouds can enhance gusty winds causing a strong wind situation.”
He said more high winds were expected today.
