Stumped: Tree felled in parking lot

A BELOVED tree at the heart of the Swan Hill CBD has been cut back to a stump, to the dismay of some local residents.

A large gum tree sitting at the centre of the car park behind the strip of shops including Dick Smith and Café Allure was recently felled on the privately owned property.

The car park is located between Curlewis and Campbell streets, across the road from the Swan Hill Courthouse.

Only the stump remains, a three metre tall reminder of the magnificent Australian native that stood before.

A peppercorn tree was also felled from where it stood at the corner of the car park, situated next to Clark’s.

Just metres from the tree stump, a damaged street light suggests the lopping led to more of a facelift than was bargained for, with one local saying they witnessed the tree hitting the lamp as it was felled.
