RESIDENTS could begin to move into the new Swan Hill Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) as early as April 2014, according to Swan Hill District Health.
The much anticipated centre will provide additional space and facilities for tenants, and will include a mobility garden and specialist clinic areas.
Swan Hill District Health corporate services executive officer Rod Prokter said the new facility would be one and a half times the size of the current rehabilitation centre.
The centre has been eagerly awaited, as current CRC facilities do not adequately cater to rising demand for rehabilitation care.
A report by The Guardian in June found limited space at the hospital site was becoming increasingly problematic, prompting a council investigation into resolving the issue.
Land on High Street and McCrae Street was subsequently rezoned from Residential 1 to Public Use, an amendment that reflected the current use of the land by Swan Hill District Health, Mr Proktor said.
