Councils explore new bridge option

DESPITE new developments in the Swan Hill Bridge saga, BPAC chairman Graeme Holt has called on Swan Hill’s councillors to do what he says they were put there to do — get the modified 4b bridge option built.

The Bridge Position Action Committee chairman’s comments follow council’s decision on Tuesday to support neighbouring Wakool Shire in its bid to have the current bridge stripped of its heritage status.

The move could open up the debate to previously unexplored options for a new crossing over the Murray River between Swan Hill and Murray Downs.

Suggestions that the current bridge could be relocated and a new bridge could be built at the current crossing’s location have also been mooted by pundits.
