Cadd takes out Cameron’s medal

FOOTBALL was played with a broader perspective on life when Woorinen hosted Balranald last Saturday.

It was the fourth time the Tigers and Roos have battled out the Nathan Cameron Memorial match since his death in 2010. The first memorial game was played the day after his funeral in May of that year.

The Tigers take on Balranald in the game due to Nathan’s dad Andrew being from the town.

Every year the respective club presidents and two committee members vote on the Nathan Cameron Medallist with former coach Aaron Cadd taking it out this season.

Despite the pain of losing her son, Nathan’s mum Judy said she was determined the day be a happy occasion with a celebratory atmosphere.

“He died playing footy which is pretty horrible, but this is actually a happy day,” she said.

As soon as he was old enough Nathan joined the Tigers’ junior ranks eventually progressing up to senior ranks and leaving an indelible mark on the club he loved.

“It’s such a lovely honour that once a year they have the game and it just allows everyone to remember him,” she said.

Tigers president Grant Jones said Cadd was a deserving medallist.

“He was solid all day through. He ploughed through the mud like a lot of people did and his use of the ball was good,” he said.

“We had four people vote on the award and it was a very close run thing between him and Matt Iannucci but the vote came out Aaron’s way.”

Jones said the club was rapt to keep Cadd on board after he handed over the coaching duties to Nick Trenfield for 2013.

“It’s freed him up to just go out and play footy and do what he can do,” Jones said.
