Inaugural director had a vision

SUNRAYSIA Institute of TAFE has announced its condolences over the death of its inaugural director Frank William Lyons OAM.

Mr Lyons died on May 30 at the age of 87 and closed a significant chapter in the history of the Institute.

He was a great advocate for a TAFE facility in Sunraysia and he was appointed in 1979 as the inaugural Director of the then Sunraysia College of TAFE, following his term as principal of Irymple Technical School from 1968 to 1978.

Mr Lyon’s drive, perseverance and vision for creating a vocational college led to the establishment of the college when he took up the appointment as Secretary of the College Interim Steering Committee in 1974.
