TWO young Swan Hill soccer players are on track to represent their state later this year.
Megan Williamson, 13, and Annie Bissinella, 11, have been chosen to try out for the under 13 Victorian team to compete in the national carnival in June/July at Coffs Harbour.
The pair played for Loddon Mallee under 13s in the Victorian Champions League over the summer, where talent scouts identified them as state prospects.
Both girls survived the initial cut, when the squad of 30-40 players was trimmed to 22.
The final squad of 16 will be coached by Bendigo’s Heath Trathen.
Swan Hill Soccer Club committee member Alison Lewin said the club would be proud of the girls’ achievements regardless of whether they made the final squad or not.
“We are excited and hopeful that by the end of the month we’ll have either of the girls make the squad, or both,” she said.
“But even if they don’t, it will have been a great experience and we wish them all the best.”
