A PRIMARY school fundraiser in Piangil this weekend featuring
Australian music royalty will be about more than just raising money — it will
also be about raising numbers.
Former Redgum musicians John Schumann and Hugh
McDonald are set to throw their weight behind the isolated local school’s big
event, staging a performance expected to be peppered with some of the band’s
greatest hits.
Enrolments at the small primary school have dwindled in
recent years, going from 19 students in 2009 to eight children enrolled from
prep to year six this year, up two from 2012.
While no announcements have
been made regarding the discontinuation of the education facility, school
council president Ken Lester said more community awareness and support from
parents was needed to keep the school running in coming years.
