Fun is the name of the game

AFTER the first round of the Victorian motocross championship series a Swan Hill rider is leading the way in an open category. ANDREW ROGERS spoke to Lee Mayers.

ENJOYMENT is the name of the game for Lee Mayers, so it’s probably no surprise that he acknowledged the part luck played in his strong opening round of the state motocross championships recently.

Mayers is competing in the open 450 C grade title and finished fourth, second and first across the three races of the first round of the series.

Despite leading the competition, however, a modest Mayers said his form had been somewhat indifferent.

“[It wasn’t] too bad. I was lucky though, because one bloke got two firsts and DNF,” he said.

The early success means Mayers will be leading the field when round two of the series is held in Swan Hill in June but one suspects racing at home will be its own reward for the 20-year-old.

“I’m looking forward to that. There’s been a few changes and the track is looking 100 per cent,” he said.
