Bowling with the boys in blue

A NATIONAL competition is being staged on the bowling greens at Murray Down this week.

The club has been a hive of activity since Sunday morning’s opening ceremony of the Australian Police Bowling Championships, which saw more than 150 participants marching in state formation.

Deputy Victorian Police Commissioner Lucinda Nolan, Swan Hill councillor Jessie Kiely, Police Superintendent Paul Naylor, Murray Downs chief executive officer Greg Roberts and Murray Downs president Bill Gurnett were among those in attendance.

The formal ceremony included the national anthem by young local talent Tullie Roberts, the remembrance of departed members in the last year, a wreath laying ceremony and a minute’s silence, while a charity day on Saturday raised money for Swan Hill District Health.
