Men’s Shed earns huge cash grant

THE Balranald Men’s Shed has received almost $30,000 to extend their existing
Heritage Park building.

The State Member for Murray Darling John Williams
this week announced the successful projects to share in $200,000 funding
allocation for the Murray-Darling Electorate under the Community Building
Partnerships program.

Some of the 10 successful applicants included the Men’s
Shed ($29,466), Moulamein Arts and Crafts Council Inc. ($10,000 to renovate,
refurbish and incorporate their adjoining building with Moulamein Art Gallery)
and Finley Men’s Shed ($11,950 for a compaction machine for recycling
waste).

Mr Williams shared the local success stories after Premier Barry
O’Farrell announced the roll out of 1235 community projects throughout the
state, part of the $90 million allocated to the program over four
years.

“There was strong competition for the available funds and a high level
of interest from the community with almost 2500 applications received across the
state in total,” Mr Williams said.

“I look forward to seeing the benefits to
our communities as projects are undertaken and more importantly put into use
across the Murray-Darling,” he said.

The Balranald Men’s Shed has nearly
doubled its membership since it was established two years ago.

To allow for
growth, plans have been drawn up which would see the back of the shed expanded
to allow for a dedicated welding and spray painting area, and a storage area for
surplus timber and metal.
