Play time: officials celebrate opening of Barry Steggall Park

TOWER Hill’s $1.3 million epicentre of entertainment has been praised at an
event to celebrate the conclusion of the Steggall Park all-abilities playground
project.

A team effort between Swan Hill Rural City Council, the Victorian
Government and Swan Hill Inc saw the park make the transition from proposal to
reality.

In order to determine the true success of the project, The Guardian
surveyed a group of undoubtedly the most important stakeholders in the project:
children.

Their verdict? A unanimous two thumbs up.

Featuring some unique
items, the park includes: a paddlesteamer based on the Pyap — with wheelchair
access, port holes, steering wheel and musical items.

It also boasts
climbing nets, a sandpit and digger, a swaying carriage which accommodates
wheelchairs, a double slide, talk-tubes and a birds nest swing, among many other
weird and wonderful pieces of equipment.

The playground was opened to the
public in December, with a few finishing touches added in the time between
Christmas and Saturday’s official opening.

Park celebrations, see Wednesday’s edition of The Guardian.
