THE Murray Regional Tourism Board (MRTB) has received $60,000 to develop a
feasibility study and business case for a proposed Murray River Adventure
Trail.
The proposed multi-sport trail would span the length of the Murray
River, using land and water to incorporate walking, cycling, kayaking, canoeing
and other forms of water transport.
The MRTB works in partnership with
Tourism Victoria, Destination New South Wales and 15 local government areas with
an aim to enable more effective development of tourism within the Murray
region.
“This is a fantastic initiative for the Murray Regional Tourism Board
to undertake this on behalf of the region,” Murray Regional Tourism Board chief
executive officer Mark Francis said.
“This is something that we have been
able to do strategically, focusing on a regional approach.”
The project,
which is funded by the board and the Federal Government, will span the length of
the Murray River and incorporate the 15 municipalities that cover the
region.
Gannawarra Shire Council deputy mayor Brian Gibson said the proposal
would allow each participating shire to look at developing specific areas that
could link into the trail.
“For us, these areas would be Gunbower Creek,
Gunbower Forest and the Murray River,” he said.
