CEO appointment ‘imminent’

THE new chief executive officer of Swan Hill Rural City Council could be chosen upon by next week, according to Mayor Les McPhee.

Speaking to The Guardian on Wednesday, Cr McPhee said the announcement of a new CEO was imminent, following an intense period of interviewing.

“We started with 58 applicants and now we’re down to the last two,” he said.

“We’re very satisfied with the final two and it’s going to be a very close decision.”

Former CEO Dennis Hovenden announced his resignation last September, however the local government election in October led to delays in the appointment process.

Since Mr Hovenden’s departure, council’s director of infrastructure David Leahy has been acting CEO.

“David [Leahy] has been doing an outstanding job as acting CEO,” Cr McPhee said.
