Enthusiastic endorsement

COUNCILLORS have backed an overhaul of the Swan Hill Regional
Livestock Exchange, unanimously endorsing plans for its redevelopment.

At
last week’s Swan Hill Rural City Council (SHRCC) meeting, councillors adopted
the recommendations of Kattle Gear Australia’s Functional Design Plan for the
facility, which could see up to $3 million spent on upgrades aimed at
modernising the facility.

The cost of the improvements will be met by income
from the sale of livestock exchange land near the Murray Valley Highway to
commercial developers and profits from the exchange’s operations, SHRCC acting
chief executive officer David Leahy told The Guardian.

A feasibility study
has valued the land to be sold at more than $1 million.
