WOORINEN will push for an outright win at home on day two of Swan Hill District Cricket Association’s 11th round on Saturday, after strong performances with the bat and the ball against Lakers.
Lakers started positively with the bat, with Alan Hatcher managing 32 and being supported by Ryan Callaghan for an opening stand of 42, but the effort was unable to be sustained.
The side collapsed to be all out for 87, with Jake Schmidt taking six wickets for the home side.
Woorinen’s innings started shakily to be 3/50 after 20 overs, before Dean Morpeth put on an impressive display of batting.
Dispatching all bowling to all corners of the park, Morpeth was not out on 147 at stumps — with Woorinen on 4/223.
The challenge on Saturday will be for Lakers to bat as long as possible to try and prevent Woorinen from claiming an outright win.
Lakers’ Graeme Scoberg said the club’s B grade side had fallen about 70 runs shy of RSL’s 220, with Ricky Jochinke managing to make 82 of Lakers total of 150.
The C grade team, he said, had not managed to reach Tooleybuc Manangatang’s 220.
RSL v Ultima TUF
ULTIMA TUF won the toss and batted first against RSL, which got on top early thanks to some strong opening bowling from Duane Bruton and Craig Fletcher.
Bruton managed 5/24, while Fletcher took four scalps.
Brad Jones claimed the last UTUF wicket, to see the visitors dismissed for just 66.
Paul Munro top-scored for RSL with 44 not out, with the home side declaring at 5/136. RSL had Ultima TUF at 2/9 at stumps.
Swan Hill v St Mary’s Tyntynder
ST MARY’S Tyntynder batted first and managed 162 at the showgrounds.
Jared Halligan put on 79 for the visitors, with the home side being 0/60 after 18 overs at stumps.
Lyndon Chaproniere said St Mary’s Tyntynder’s B grade outfit had downed Balranald after managing 147.
Tooleybuc Manangatang v Nyah District
NYAH District batted first after winning the toss, making 5/296 at Tooleybuc.
Ritchie Boulton top-scored with a classy 101 not out, while Michael Boulton made 49 not out after batting at number seven.
Jason Morrison contributed 71 runs to the total, while Shane Fleming managed 31.
Leigh Kentish played and bowled, taking three wickets for the home side. But after putting on a strong total, Nyah appears in the box seat to take first innings points on Saturday.
