Bumper Boxing Day

THE hum of steady foot traffic in Swan Hill’s CBD this month has been music to
the ears of local retailers.

Good sales in the lead-up to Christmas and a
bumper Boxing Day have temporarily eased the worries of some retailers faced
with the increasing popularity of internet shopping and the challenges of rural
retail.

Swan Hill Inc retail manager and Northern Shoe Store owner Terry
Jennings said Boxing Day was becoming an increasingly important event on the
retail calendar.

“Certainly there was plenty of foot traffic early in the
morning so I would have thought it was a successful retail day,” he said.

“Like all areas it’s being promoted more heavily each year so it’s growing
everywhere.
