Ley discusses poor phone coverage

HOPE and hardships in the Balranald region, including
Balranald’s contentious mobile reception, were discussed at length when the
Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley met with Balranald Shire Councillors on
Tuesday.

Addressing Balranald’s push to become a tourism-centric town, Ms Ley
said the Federal Opposition was likely to campaign with an enhanced
telecommunications policy at the next election.

“I’m confident we’ll have a
policy on mobile coverage going into the next election,” she said.

“Mobile
phones and sealed roads are vital for tourism.

“There’s very few tourism
regions with no [mobile] reception.”

Increased mobile phone coverage in the
Balranald region has long been the subject of both community and Council-driven
campaigns.
