Much ado about day two

ALL Swan Hill District Cricket Association A grade sides have
their second bite at the cherry in round four with two-dayers continuing this
Saturday.

Swan Hill and Tooleybuc Manangatang managed to bat out their
allotted 80 overs last week, leaving respective opponents RSL and Woorinen keen
to return fire .

Meanwhile, Nyah District and St Mary’s Tyntynder bowled out
Ultima and Lakers respectively and continue good first innings with the
bat.

Swan Hill v RSL

SWAN Hill captain Daniel Cruickshank said their
227-run start over RSL, utilising all 80 overs at their home pitch, was
satisfactory.

“We would have liked a few more, but couldn’t do much about it,
they bowled really well,” Cruickshank said.

The away side will have it all
before them, with 10 wickets, 80 overs and a flat pitch, but Cruickshank said
confidence was still high among Swan Hill bowlers.

“Any team on their day can
bat 80 overs and the pitch at Swan Hill is a road,” Cruickshank said.

“But
we’ve got some good bowlers and three spinners which will help.”

“We’d look
to get Paul Munro out early, he’s made a lot of runs this year, and their
captain Dwayne (Hinton).”

Tooleybuc Manangatang v Woorinen

TOOLEYBUC
Manangatang captain Leigh Kentish said he was happy with his team’s 308 opening
salvo on Saturday

“Yeah over 300, we’re pretty happy with that,” he
said.

A significant boost to the team’s total was Kentish’s 109 — the first
century this season in A grade.

“Yeah, I got pretty excited,” he said.

“To be honest I don’t think (Woorinen) bowled too bad, after tea they looked
to get a bit tired, fielding and bowling, and that’s when the majority of the
runs came.”

“I was definitely aided by my teammates: Tommy Mattarazzo made
43, Adrian Gordon 44, Braden Hender made 26.

“That’s what made it easier — I
didn’t feel I had to make runs, I could just bat.”

Woorinen captain Glen
Violi said his side would do well after containing the opposing batsmen last
Saturday.

“I thought we did pretty well, they batted exceptionally well, it
could be interesting this weekend.

The captain named Guri Singh’s 21-over
all-day effort, on a tough pitch for bowlers, among last week’s
highlights.

This Saturday, if Woorinen’s best batsmen Violi, Singh and Jamie
Crabbe can form long partnerships, expect them to go beyond 300 in 80
overs.

“We’re pretty confident, it’s going to be pretty tough to build some
partnerships but we’ve got nothing to lose,” Violi said.

St Mary’s Tyntynder
v Lakers

ST MARY’S Tyntynder start this week’s instalment with 46 overs and
five wickets remaining from their first innings, after Lakers posted a
respectable 139.

Lakers captain Matt Smith said last week’s first effort was
good but consistency would be the key in both sides’ second innings.

“When
batting we lost wickets too regularly and couldn’t build partnerships,” Smith
said.

“We were playing a few too many shots we didn’t need to… we knew we had
to bat [a long] time, but some bad habits from one-dayer’s we didn’t get out of.

“In the field we kept toiling and started off with a few early wickets,” he
said.
