LAKE Boga has cleaned up in the Tidy Towns state finals, taking out top awards for “premium attractions” built largely on volunteer work.
The Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum received the Cultural Heritage award, one of 14 awards presented at the 30th annual Victorian Tidy Towns event.
Initially focused on anti-littering, the Tidy Towns Awards have grown to include a range of community initiatives, which this year included over 50 entries with a total of 163 initiatives.
Lake Boga Lions Club accepted the award, after putting in more than 4000 hours of hard work, with funding assistance, to create what is now a million-dollar tourist attraction.
Judges acknowledged the group’s efforts to restore the underground communications bunker, install water-saving measures in surrounding gardens and beautify the museum’s entrance.
