THE 19TH HOLE

Murray Downs Men

On Tuesday this week we held a medley Stableford competition with around 40 players taking to the course.

Leigh Paynter took out A grade with 38 points from his 17 handicap, while Roger Walker came in second with 33 points.

Ian Gammon took out B grade with 35 points, while Richard Johnson came in second with 34 points.

NTP’s 2nd Greg Weybury, 5th Justin Toomey, 11th Kristy Gordon, 15th Robert O’Brien.

Plenty of players made the most of the fantastic weather on Thursday and hit the course for a Medley Stableford event.

Roger Walker continued his solid form taking out A grade with 39 points, while Bob Burns finished runners up with 36 points on a countback.

The best score of the day belonged to B grade winner Gordon Parsons who returned a fantastic round of 41 points from his 28 handicap, while Greg Weybury came in second with a handy round of 38 points.

Thirty three points or better was good enough to feature in the ball rundown.

On the weekend, we held the 6th edition of our annual Murray Downs Ambrose event, with more than 150 players from all over the state coming to play in the two-day event.

Although the weather didn’t play its part throughout the weekend there were still some fantastic scores throughout the weekend in both the men’s and ladies’ competition.

The best nett score for the ladies on Saturday belonged to Nadine Cox and Karen Slater who had a great round of nett score of 67.5.

While on Sunday, it was Jenny Lynas and Tamika Hogan who took out the daily nett prize with 66.5.

The overall nett winners for the two days with a fantastic score of 136.5 were Sally Fearn and Kristy Gordon.

In the gross side of the tournament, it was Barb Cadd and Lynne Bishop who took the honours with a total of 158.

Saturdays NTP’s 2nd Susan Wood, 5th&11th Lynne Bishop, 15th Marg Moore.

Sundays NTP’s 2nd Kristy Gordon, 5th&15th Suzanne Napier, 11th Susan Wood.

Over in the men’s side of the tournament the best nett score on Saturday belonged to George Barnes and Lyonel O’shannesy with a great round of 63.5 nett.

Bradley Koenig and Shane Fahey came runners up with 64.5 nett.

Saturday’s NTP’s 2nd Luke Dranke, 5th Stuart Patterson, 11th Barry Lacey, 15th Luke Merritt.

Onto Sunday, and the best nett score for the day belonged to James McLean and Craig Fletcher with a score of 64.25, while Paul Robinson and John Howorth came runners up with 65.

Sunday’s NTP’s 2nd Lewis Gebert, 5th Tony Haley, 11th Eric Vosbergen, 15th Zac Caccaviello.

In the 36-hole section, the winners this year with a superb total of 128 were Isaiah Faulkhead and Michael Faulkhead, while Luke Drake and Scott Dean came runners up with 129.5.

Finally, into the 36-hole scratch event, with two fantastic rounds of golf and a total of 130 gross our winners from Horsham golf club were Lewis Gebert and Matthew Jakobi.

Murray Downs Women

Sixty women endured windy conditions at MDG&CC on Wednesday.

The stroke event was the first round of the Holts Auto Service Spring Brooch which is run over three weeks.

Chris Warburton (17) 71 nett was the victor on this occasion, taking out the September Monthly Medal on a count back from Marg Moore (21).

These two golfers were the Division one winners.

In Division two, Jenice Krahnert (30) 73 nett was successful ahead of Anne Webb (28) 75 nett.

Carol Wiseman, Lois Carnie and Mary-Anne Davis all scored 74 nett to lead the ball pool.

Bev Holt’s 31 putts won the prize for the least number of putts, Kath Brennan is $250 richer after hitting her tee shot to 103 cm from the pin on the 11th.

Kathy Parkinson, Jill Bath and Heather Evans won the other ntp’s.


Nyah West Golf Club

Wild winds did not deter Graham Muir from scoring a handicap breaking 41 points in last Sunday’s Stableford event off his 31 handicap,

Andrew Flanagan was next best on 37 points on a count back from Leigh Paynter, with Michael Watson a further 3 points behind.

Nearest the pins went to John Manser on the Goodyear Autocare 2nd, Graham Muir the Nyah West Pharmacy 12th, Andrew Flanagan the Nutrien Ag Solutions 15th and Dennis Pretty the Rutherford Street Tyres 16th

He just missed the Country Tracks 4WD Swan Hill Eagles Nest by 4cm.

The club’s programmed wind-up day for this season will be played on Sunday with a 9-hole Ambrose event commencing at 2pm followed by a barbecue tea and trophy presentations.

Anyone interested in joining in for the day’s activities, member or not, is welcome to attend.


Lakeside Ladies

There was perfect spring weather for our final Wednesday golf for the year.

Winner – Deanne Free (24) 38pts, R/up Mandy Male (9) 36pts, Ball R/down Lois Heil.

NTP’s – 3rd Mandy Male, 7th Bakers Delight- Deanne Free, 12th HEConsult- Mandy Ackland, 18th – Lois Heil.

A “Pink Day” Closing Day will be held on Sunday, 3 person Ambrose, any combination. 11.30am start for 12pm hit off – presentations and dinner to follow.

Dad’s Army

On Monday, September 2, members played the Back Nine at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club in a Stableford Event.

Barry Bishop came in with the best score, 20 points, followed by Barry Ingram on 18 points and Andy Millar on 15 points.

On Wednesday, September 4, members played the Front Nine with Gordon Parsons recording the best score with 19 points.

He finished ahead of Ian Dickson on 17 points and four players on 15 points, Kevin Maddy, Barry Bishop, Gavin Scown and Andy Millar.

The weekly winner with combined scores was Barry Bishop on 35 points, from Barry Ingram, 32 points and Andy Millar, 30 points.
