SWAN HILL

THIS Friday should be perfect weather to come along to the Swan Hill Bowls Club for a game in our Friday Frolic social afternoon, starting 3pm.

Be sure to have your name in by 2.30pm to go into the draw as we welcome experienced bowlers as well as anyone willing to give the game a try.

The jackpot is steadily rising and all who play have a chance of cracking it, as well as every winner who receives a prize.

After the game, Vic will be at the bar to serve happy hour drinks to go with a light snack, while Mick will have several raffle prizes for you to try your luck at.

Last Friday, visitors who were in Swan Hill for the Melbourne Cup weekend almost outnumbered the locals, with people coming from Maroochydore, Kangaroo Flat, Manly, Sydney and Melbourne.

Saturday was a tough day for division 1 against Murray Downs 2, with Swan Hill unable to claim a rink.

B.Husson’s rink almost made it four in a row, but just missed out by one shot at the very end of the day against Peter Furnell’s side.

B.Quaife’s rink was unable to hold off K.O’Bree’s four, falling nine shots short, while D.Uebergang’s crew led from the start, overpowering A.Shields side by 28 shots, with Murray Downs finishing the day ahead by 38 shots.

Saturday, the one’s will be looking to redeem themselves when they visit Nyah, who won’t be an easy target by any means.

Division 2 had a better story to tell, defeating Tooleybuc 1 by 23 shots overall, with A. Marshman guiding his team to a 12-shot victory against A. Adams rink.

A. Hill was well supported by his team to add another 13 shots against A. Smith’s rink, while T. Armstrong’s side got the better of R. Poole by two shots.

Swan Hill 2 will be at Racecourse this Saturday to battle it out against the Racecourse’s number 3 side.

Midweek Pennant will be back in action this Tuesday after the cup day week off, with division 1 playing Murray Downs 2 at Murray Downs and division 2 playing at home against Balranald 1.

This Sunday, the ladies state triples will continue at the Swan Hill Bowls Club, with play starting at 9.30am.

Our Cup Day event was a success, with guests enjoying a delicious lunch and afternoon tea, while some were lucky in the Cup Day sweep.

Also attending were a caravan group from Melbourne and Sydney that have been coming for 15 years.

We were sad to learn that this may be their last year, but have been grateful for their support across that time, with many thanks also going to all who helped make the day successful.

TOOLEYBUC     players won only one out of three rinks in last Saturday’s pennant against a stronger Swan Hill team, with the winning rink on the day being T. Armstrong’s team by two shots – the final result Swan Hill 82 to Tooleybuc 59.

Tooleybuc will play at home against Manangatang 1 on Saturday.

There are no midweek pennant results this week due to the Melbourne Cup holiday, with Tooleybuc playing Racecourse 4 at Racecourse next Tuesday.

Well done to Dannielle Adams and Trish Armstrong who played in the Murray Mallee Region round robin last Sunday, with their team having two wins and a draw.

Both ladies have now been selected to play in a practice match at Ouyen on Sunday, December 1 before teams are selected to play at the next level at Wycheproof.
