Blues back to winning

Bob Sutterby

UNFORTUNATELY due to player numbers, Calder United forfeited the round to Barham Koondrook, giving the Raiders the six points and a week off.

Murrabit wiped the cobwebs off after a loss to Lake Boga with a big win over RSL at home.

Sent into bat, it looked grim for the Blues, losing Toby Gray on the fourth ball of the innings.

However, as we’ve seen already and I’m sure we will see again this season, multiple players stood up and carried the innings, with Josh Bray (48), Jobe Hein (53) and Matt Webb (67) all digging in deep to get Kerang to a dominant 8/256.

Sending RSL in for the chase, Toby Gray pulled out a career best bowling of 5/8 from his five overs and supported well by Zeb Hein with 3/23 off 5.5 overs, which had the RSL team all out for 56.

Wandella returned to West Turf for the first time this season, hosting Sea Lake-Woomelang.

It unfortunately wasn’t a great day for the Bombers, with the strong Sea Lake-Woomelang side dominating both sides of the game.

Brodey Farley (20) and Leigh Hollingworth (21) both put in resistance with the bat but Wandella were all out for 104, with the visitors showing why they’ve been in the finals for several seasons in a row, chasing down the total in the 19th over.

Kerang travelled up the highway to play reigning premiers Nyah District and were sent out to the field early, with dropped catches again being the story of the day. Both Ash Thompson (79) and Ritchie Boulton (34) were dropped early while on single figures.

Justin Toomey (65) helped out mid-innings to get the Demons to a formidable 6/247, with Ron Bright the best of the bowlers with 4/28 off eight overs.

In reply, Kerang started out well, with Ron Bright (56) scoring well, however the wheels started to come off with partnerships failing to stick.

Jon Roberts (31) stuck around well, however the Blues ended all out for 135, with Elijah Curran taking 5/6 from his seven overs.
