MULTI-award winning Aussie alternative rock band Eskimo Joe has embarked on a tour with a difference.
The band are taking an acoustic approach for their Swan Hill show on Friday, July 12.
The band have had 35 ARIA nominations since they started out back in 1997, a number surpassed only by Silverchair, Powderfinger, Kylie Minogue and John Farnham.
The awards are testament to the band’s ability to straddle a line between commercial success and maintaining their alternative music roots.
They have also brought home three international song-writing awards, 11 WAMi Awards and eight ARIAs and 11 of their compositions have featured in Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown.
Guitarist Stuart Stuart MacLeod said the band decided it would be good to explore their songs a little more and do something more creative with them and decided on an acoustic format.
“Although during rehearsals we decided to bring in a few non-acoustic elements in, it is basically the three of us presenting the songs in a unique way,” MacLeod said.
The regional tour idea was brought to the group by a promoter who had connections in regional centres and the group thought it would be a great idea.
MacLeod said it had been a while since the band had embarked on a regional tour.
“This tour actually takes us to places we have never been, such as Swan Hill.”
Josh Pyke will be guest performer. Pyke is also a multi-ARIA Award winner and is known for his multi-layered melodies and lyrics that are deeply personal.
He has six albums to his name.
