Soccer Swans hit the road

THE Swan Hill Soccer League women’s team will hit the road this weekend in search of their second win of the season against Castlemaine Goldfields.

A win against Castlemaine would draw the Swans to within three points of a top-four berth, after suffering a 9-0 loss to ladder leaders Kyneton Rangers last Sunday.

Also in action will be Swan Hill’s under-16 boys team, who will host Spring Gully Red at the Ken Harrison Reserve at 1pm this Saturday.

It is the final qualifying round for the under-16 competition before they play the knockout cup in Bendigo on July 8.

It will also be Swan Hill’s first game against Spring Gully Red, having suffered a 2-1 defeat to their sister team Spring Gully White last weekend.

Their second loss of the season moved them to third on the ladder.

While a tough game against Spring Gully is guaranteed, Swan Hill will be hoping a win will keep them in the top three and in front of Border Raiders, who are also on 18 points.

Also taking to the pitchwill be the under-14 girls side, who will travel to Bendigo to face Epsom FC on Saturday morning, fresh off the team’s second win for the season.

The 2-1 victory was the Swans first in front of their home fans and elevated them to equal fifth on the ladder, behind Kyneton on goal difference.

The Swan Hill men’s soccer team has the bye this weekend.
