Hot form for finals

Damian Mangiameli

THE big three in the Swan Hill Table Tennis Association A Grade competition head into next week’s finals in red-hot form.

Ladder leaders Beck Legal Solicitors, with evergreen Joe Pino and young gun Aaron Threadgold in career-best form, proved too good for Sharp Fruit, winning 7-4.

Michael Shean and Mitchell Croft tried hard for the losing team but were outgunned, while Terry Martin inspired Kunat Thunder to a 7-4 victory over a shattered Bakker & Glen.

Damien Mangiameli and Paul Johnson won two matches each, but would have expected a little more from Steve Colombo.

McKnight and Bray strolled into second position with a comfortable 7-4 win over R&J Joinery, with Santhosh Gunasekaran and Hannes Diedricks the most improved pair of players in the competition. Natalie Whateley was her usual consistent self, but couldn’t bridge the gap.

Can anyone stop Swan Hill District Driver Education for this this year’s B Grade championship?

The answer appeared to be no after they defeated Advanced Packaging 7-4.

Neil Williams won his three singles matches but couldn’t stop Kevin Edwards, Roberta Spicer and Rodney Stevenson, who each won two singles matches.

Swan Hill Chemicals clung onto fourth spot, with Kevin Burge and Dave Crooymens winning all their matches. The best for Opal Packaging was Deep Seth and Mick Hickox.

Violi Finance outlasted PDF Accounting 4-1, with A Grade-bound Matt Brunner and Tarin Tants proving too consistent for Brendan O’Bryan and Ray Cunningham.

Swan Hill Windscreens defeated Murray Downs 8-3. There was plenty of spice in the clash as Seymus Spicer took on father Basil.

This match had all of the ingredients of a hot chili souffle, with both players cooking up a great plan, although Seymus got the chocolates in a tough five setter.
