Lonergan brothers share milestone day

LAKE Boga Football Netball Club celebrated Aaron Lonergan’s 400th senior game in the side’s last game of the year on Saturday.

The hard-ball winner who clubmates call Azza ran out for the milestone alongside his brother Jayden, after Aaron returned to the Magpies this season.

The club also celebrated the 300th senior appearance of Jayden, the pair playing their first season together since 2017.

Lake Boga coach Dean Helmers said the pair had provided the club with immense experience and hard work throughout this year and their careers.

“It was a fantastic moment to be a part of,” he said.

“I let both the guys know that I felt pretty privileged to be a part of the moment.

“I know that all the players were very proud to be a part of something like this as well.

“It’s an amazing achievement, it’s not often that you have players who are still such strong contributors this far into a career.”

Helmers said the pair were the perfect teachers for the young Lake Boga team.

“They’re always imparting their wisdom on the younger guys,” he said.

“They’ll be telling them where to run to and how to work smarter, that’s exactly what you want to have around the young team we are building.

“When we’re talking about things like desire indicators, they’d be at the top of the list each and every week for their hard efforts.

“It’s a great show of respect to the club that they both wanted to play the season here.”

Helmers also confirmed that Jayden Lonergan would return to the Magpies next year, as the club seeks a return to finals football.
