Strike A Pose stars to shine

AFTER a dark and doomy two years, bright stars are ready to shoot across the stage as Strike A Pose Dance Studio hosts its 17th annual concert tomorrow.

Dance teacher Natasha Gerakis said like all dance studios, they weren’t able to stage a traditional concert last year due to the coronavirus restrictions and lockdowns.

“Last year we danced in the studio, online via Zoom and outside,” she said.

“At the end of the year I personally filmed all the dancers over a number of weeks while we were outside and produced a video for them.

“This year we have endued on and off classes in the studio and online.

“My dancers have been terrific in keeping up with the choreography at home and have even organised their own rehearsals as a group at their homes.

“Everyone is looking forward to the costumes, make up, hair styles and stage lights.”

Ms Gerakis said she was proud of being able to put on a full dance program with each class performing between three and four dance routines.

“It’s not just one dance, but they will shine a few times on the stage,” she said.

“They had a ball on Wednesday night at the dress rehearsal … feels like we back to the real thing.”

Students will perform jazz, hip hop, contemporary, tap and musical theatre.

“Because there was no formal concert last year, there were no family and friends and no applause,” Ms Gerakis said.

“They get their trophies and certificates at the end, but no one got to see that last year.

“This year’s concert will be a really nice way to finish what wasn’t a great year.”

The concert is being staged at the 250-seat theatre Harrison Hall, Pye Street, at 7pm.

Tickets ($30 adults, $25 concession and $20 students) can be purchased at the door.
