Tigers reign supreme against Raiders

The round eight clash between Koondrook-Barham and Premiers, Woorinen Tigers, took place on Wemba-Wemba land this past weekend.

Players wore their Indigenous guernerys in acknowledgement of NAIDOC week to celebrate the history and culture of the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people in their community.

The teams and fans at the new Barham Sporting Complex were gifted with perfect weather.

The first quarter kicked off at a slow pace, as players adapted to the game and got familiarised with their opposing teams tactics.

Woorinen kicked the first two goals for the game capitalizing on there ability to set up goals and lead, they out worked the Raiders.

At the end of the first quarter it was Tigers in the lead at 6.4.40 with Koondrook/Barham trailing at 2.2.14.

The second quarter upped in pace, as the Raiders put a stop to the Tigers ability to make smooth transitions down the field, intercepting the ball before they could score.

Although Koondrook’ defence was tight they couldn’t keep the ball in their inside fifty.

Woorinen destroyed any chance of them finding an opportunity to kick a goal.

The half time score saw Koondrook Barham 4.2.20 trailing the Tigers 10.10.70.

The Raiders won the action packed third quarter outnumbering the Tigers with possessions and with their ability to maintain the ball.

The Tigers struggled to get the ball out of their opponents inside fifty. Luckily for the Tigers their defence remained tight.

The Raiders were actually kicking much straighter than the Tigers in the game.

The fast pace quarter ended with Koondrook Barham still trailing at 8.4.52 with the Tigers still leading on 12.12.84.

Woorinen returned to the field, after the third quarter huddle more resolute and ready to “keep that nitty gritty footy up” and “generate successful runs,” after the the Raiders fantastic quarter.

Dougie Palmer, best on for the Tigers and leading goal kicker once again, graced the skies as he marked the ball, kicked the first goal of the quarter and in total kicked a staggering eleven goals for his team.

The Tigers dominated the final quarter kicking goal after goal as they successfully kept the ball out of Raiders hands, creating perfect opportunities for their teammates to score.

The Tigers in the end were awesome winning by ten goals with a final game score of 19.17.131 and Koondrook-Barham on 9.4.58.
