Silo art in Moulamein
Evidently you could vote for the design that we will be getting painted on our water tower.
Our Murray River Council must be getting a few lessons off our mates from TransGrid on the art of smoke and mirrors.
When will our brain-dead council realise that we have the Wongi in town to get any message out to our town and district.
Also, a bit of advertising money off our beloved council would be appreciated by our Wongi volunteers.
Back to the voting. I may not be into art but if you are going to spend that much money on art it should be something that represents our town and district.
One thing I did notice in the three designs that were voted on, there was nothing to do with our Aboriginal history.
I do not know if it is too late to get a more local design or whether the one with the brolga standing on a rock amongst a heap of birds that look like white swans will get up.
Mind you. It could be better than the one with a ring-tailed possum sitting on a koala sitting on a wombat while they look out of a window beside a kangaroo looking out another window just above a southern bell frog sitting on a sheep that is sitting on a cow at another window. There are other windows, but I am windowed out.
The third one has three sections. A river scene, some photos that will be recreated and some historic photos of our district.
That to me is the pick of them. It would be even better if it went from Aboriginal, to the historic photos to the river scene. But I am still leaning towards the possum on the koala on the wombat looking out the window. You see that all of the time in our district.
The mayor’s bar must have been open that night to have that one in the final three.

As far as I can gather voting has closed. But now that we actually know about this possum window we may be able to get some common sense into this great project.
Break-in at our school
Our Moulamein school was broken into on July 27. From the size of the fingerprints the offenders would be adolescents. If you have any information about this offence, please call the police on 131444. This would be a good time to put that number into your phone because you do not want the sirens. There is no need to call 000. Just call 131444 to get the police. It is now in my phone, put it into yours.
Drone survey for our new Moulamein Bridge
It was great to read in the paper last week that they have finally decided on the new site for our Moulamein Bridge near Swan Hill. I thought the drones had already done their survey, then they formed the Anti-Bridge Committee. Things are ramping up on the only site that would work for our new Moulamein Bridge. I might actually get to drive myself across it before I get too old. Bring it on. The sooner the better.
Last chance to buy a hat
You will still be able to buy an Akubra hat in the future, but not locally. For some reason only known to them the Akubra company has decided that country shops cannot sell their hats anymore. Only a few privileged shops in cities will be allowed to sell their product. If you want to buy local get into Swan Hill Disposals ASAP to order one. It is not like the old days. My last hat I ordered took months to arrive because I have a boof head and it had to be especially ordered. If you need a new hat before Xmas now would be a good time to order it, or you will have to travel to a major centre to buy it.
Employment land strategy
I’m not sure what it is but it is something our Murray River Council has written – a 137-page report concerning the future direction of our district. I got to about page five, saw Moama mentioned a few times, and my eyes glazed over.
That is why I would not make a good councillor for our district. I have trouble reading rubbish.
If someone has more patience than me please read through it and work out what they are up to. You have until August 20 to get your submission in. I am not even going to try and put up the bulldust address to find this report. If you want to wade through 137 pages you will know how to find this site yourself.
Council elections
While I am on the subject as to why I could never make a councillor for our Murray River Council, apart from the fact that my eyes glaze over if I am reading rubbish, I really only care about Moulamein and district.
The rest of our council only comes in as a second thought. You can’t be like that when you are a councillor. You must treat every town the same.
Our council elections will be happening on Saturday, September 14. If you ever fancied yourself as a councillor this would be a great time to step up. Nominations will close off very soon so you need to get your name in ASAP.
Footy-Netball away again this week
We go to Murrabit this week for the second-last game of the year for our footballers. Our seniors got home by two points for their second win of the season. A Grade got up as well by one point to try and keep themselves in the four.
Our mighty Midgets, the under-14 netballers got up by 16 to cement their spot in the finals. I cannot get there again this week. I have a grandson playing at Marvil Stadium so I get to see him run around at half-time while I cheer my Mighty Bombers on, so we can get a spot in the eight.

River levels
Our Edward has dropped to around one metre and just more than 660 megs a day. They have started to fill up Stevens Weir for the irrigation season to fill our channels up and the farmers are cranking their pumps up to irrigate so our river will stay low.
