Lake Boga steps up in support

THE Lake Boga Pub invites local people to an auction this Friday night to raise money for Lake Boga resident Kelly Robertson, who has been affected by Crohn’s disease.

Before the auction begins at 8pm, there will be lots of music and an open-mic event at 6pm.

Various items donated by local businesses will be up for bids.

Organiser Kathy Wilde said the Lake Boga community had been supportive of the Roberston family with their contributions to the auction, as well as a GoFundMe fundraiser.

“Kelly and Brent are both local people who everybody knows. They come into the pub, they go to the footy and all those things, so they’re well known in the local community,” Ms Wilde said.

“So everyone’s just jumped on board, and we decided on a night pretty quickly because they need assistance as quickly as possible.”

Following her diagnosis last month, Ms Robertson was rushed to hospital and was receiving treatment in Melbourne after multiple emergency operations.

The funds raised for the Robertsons will go towards the cost of travel, parking and accommodation for the family.

“We were aware that Kelly was very unwell and needed hospitalisation and ongoing operations, which needed a long-term recovery,” Ms Wilde said.

Ms Wilde said the community had been incredibly generous in donating things for auction and local businesses and artists had chipped in to help.

“There are big and small things up for grabs. Some of them include a spa, a party boat, and a Harley motorcycle as well as gift cards among many other items like artwork and gift bags,” she said.

There will be many items available, but Ms Wilde hopes that there will be enough bidders to buy everything on offer.

“We’re trying to make sure that people are turning up on the night,” she said.

“And it will also be strictly cash only.”
