No clean getaway

A Swan Hill cafe owner wants to know why two women allegedly stole more than 40 of their tea towels from a laundromat.

The duo was captured wet handed by security vision, which has gone viral on social media during the past few days.

“With that many tea towels they must have a lot of dishes that need drying,” High Thyme Cafe’s Brett Wright said.

Mr Wright’s mother had the usual task of taking the dirty and wet towels to the Brown Street Laundromat for washing last Thursday.

However, when she returned to collect the cleaned towels they were nowhere to be seen.

“It prompted us to call the owner of the laundromat, who luckily had security vision that captured the whole day,” Mr Wright said.

“I had a think about what to do with the footage when it was sent to me.”

Mr Wright uploaded an excerpt of the “bizarre incident” to Facebook and viewed by more than 20,000 people within days.

The footage showed two women stuffing tea towels into a basket, concealed inside a blanket.

“It’s not a big expense by any means, but when you rely on them it is inconvenient,” Mr Wright said.
