Lavey’s Lynx suffer two-game Victorian losing streak in WNBL

TESSA Lavey and her Perth Lynx side will limp into the 2016-17 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) semi-finals after back-to-back losses on their road trip to Victoria.

The first defeat came at the hands of Dandenong Rangers who beat the Western Australian’s 81-59 — snapping their own four-game losing streak at home.

In a twist of fate, the Rangers and Lynx will face off in the playoffs, which begin on Saturday.

Swan Hill’s Lavey scored two points, took three rebounds and assisted two teammates to buckets against the Rangers.

The Olympian led the way for her side as far as assists were concerned in her 21:56 minutes on court.

Her ‘home’ game in Bendigo was another loss for the Lynx as the Bendigo Spirit won 73-72.

A host of Swan Hill Flyers club members were in attendance including the supportive Lavey family.

But even with the support, the captain couldn’t will her side back for a victory.

She scored herself three points from nine attempts at the basket, a three-pointer her only successful shot, in 30 minutes on the court.

She was instrumental on the boards with 10 rebounds and five assists for her teammates.

Lavey had the second highest total for rebounds as teammates Ruth Hamblin beat her with 11.

Perth will host the Rangers on Saturday and March 3 during semi final round 1.
