Firmly on the triathlon map

Swan Hill put itself on the triathlon map after running the second successive Voyage Fitness Riverside Tri on Sunday and its first event in the popular Rural Tri Series.

Age was no barrier as more than 450 competitors dashed to the finish line at Riverside Park after a series of courses along the scenic Murray River.

In the Sprint Triathlon, 55 men and 29 women competed in the Open field, which saw competitors splash into the outdoor swimming pool in a 500-metre swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

First to finish overall was Echuca-Moama Triathlon Club member Tim Fitzpatrick in a time of 58 minutes and one second.

The first female over the line was fellow Echuca-Moama Triathlon Club member Rebecca Cladingboel in one hour, four minutes and 18 seconds.

Fitzpatrick told The Guardian he was nervous going into the swimming leg.
