Members of the Swan Hill Catch-Up Club marked the club’s first birthday with a “kid’s party” themed celebration.
Run by Community Care, the club has 20 regular members who meet once a fortnight to cook, make crafts and socialise in a friendly setting.
The club’s first birthday party was held at the Swan Hill Senior Citizens Centre last Friday.
Swan Hill Rural City Council social support leader Carolyn Harrop said the club allowed senior citizens to get involved in the community.
“It gets them out of the house and doing things (that) they haven’t done in a while,” Ms Harrop said.
“We want them to get involved so they feel like they’re achieving something.
“This year, we hope to do some more cooking and craft things.
“One goal I would love to achieve is to have a stall selling homemade baking good and crafts at one of the local markets.”
Community Care worker Julie Nelson said the club had grown from five people to 20 since it started.
“We had a few new people join us this year and they seem to be really enjoying it,” Ms Nelson said.
Catch-Up Club member Ross Watts said he hadn’t missed one meeting since the club started last February.
“It’s great to meet different people through it,” he said.
