Flexible Learning Option (FLO) held their end of year celebration and awards night last week.
FLO is a select entry program run through Swan Hill College for disengaged, or at risk of being disengaged, years 9 to 12 students.
Manager of Swan Hill FLO Hayley Siddons said the program is an option for students who don’t feel like they fit into the regular school system.
“We select students based on whether their needs match the education we can offer,” she said.
“The aim is to celebrate student’s successes and achievements and place emphasis on attendance which is something a lot of our students have struggled with in regular school.
“We find their attendance goes from below average to over 80 per cent once they start the FLO program.”
The majority of FLO students are enrolled in a VCAL program with a focus on literacy, numeracy and life skills.
Awards given out at the celebration included Over 90 percent attendance awards, Year 10 and 11 achievement awards, Mentee of the Year, Applied Learner of the Year, Caltex Achievement Award and 2016 Murray Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network FLO Champion.
