Samia Fox Rajei took a huge leap of faith 10 years ago when she decided to move from Casablanca, Morocco, to Swan Hill after falling in love with her Australian husband.
The mother-of-three works in the settlement department of Mallee Family Care, helping refugees and asylum seekers with services like accommodation and employment.
She taps into her own personal experiences to help her clients settle into the community.
“It’s brilliant to be able to do this role. As a migrant myself, I can understand what these people are going through, especially trying to adapt to a community that’s so different from the one you came from,” she said.
“When I first moved here it was very difficult for me to engage with people in a new country because of the cultural barrier.
“I worked really hard to meet new people and engage in the community.”
