Swan Hill council has flicked the switch off its plans to extend the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery after it found there was a shortfall in funds to install lights at two sporting precincts.
Council approved the transfer of $135,000 in funding from the Art Gallery Extension – Design Project into lighting projects at the Alan Garden Reserve and Ken Harrison Reserve soccer field.
Council’s director infrastructure Oliver McNulty said council allocated $308,055 for the implementation of the Ken Harrison project ($190,000) and Alan Garden Reserve ($118,055) over two consecutive years (2015-16 and 2016-17), which included contributions from user groups and state funding.
“Through a review it was identified that not having full detailed designs and specifications from a lighting consultant was a major risk for this project,” Mr McNulty said.
He said council appointed a consultant and detailed designs were completed for each location, which identified the project would cost about $420,000, a shortfall of $135,000.
