When former Balranald artist Catherine Stewart moved from the outback in the NSW Riverina to alpine country in Victoria’s north-east, she found herself whirling less brown and more green.
It was her relocation from a flat, dry outback to the rolling green hills that changed her painting pallet.
Defined as a contemporary artist, Ms Stewart’s works feature mixed mediums and collected pieces to complete her work.
Now living near Beechworth in the shadows of the state’s high country, Ms Stewart, a former high school art teacher, said she had always been inspired by her rural surrounds from Balranald where she spent most of her life.
Depictions of rustic settings, still life and flowing forms expressed in a contemporary style are her trademark.
Ms Stewart’s landscapes, still life and bird studies are presented using a variety of techniques including oils, oil pastel and innovative mixed media.
