A NEWLY-enforced minimum wage ruling has local self-employed truckies worried about losing their livelihoods and has to be scrapped, local MP Andrew Broad says.
The ruling, made by the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal, came into effect last week and set national minimum payment requirements for contract drivers to recognise safety concerns of driving long distances.
It has come under fire from self-employed truck owner-drivers concerned it would price them out of contract jobs, and was the subject of a failed Federal Court injunction.
Mr Broad told The Guardian his office has already received calls from local truck owner-drivers concerned with the minimum payments order.
