COMMUNITY members have voiced their disgust at people misusing Salvation Army collection points by dumping their hard rubbish around them.
The Guardian came across a mess of dumped clothes and unwanted goods at the Salvation Army office on Beveridge Street on Monday morning, before receiving reports of similar scenes in collection points across the city.
A Facebook post by local radio station 3SH identifying that household waste had been dumped at the collection point on McCallum Street received a number of irate responses from locals, who pointed out all the points were overloaded.
Several comments blamed the behaviour on people avoiding the expenses of accessing landfill to dump hard waste.
Though the collections points have subsequently been cleaned up, Salvation Army spokesperson Dr Bruce Redman said it was definitely a common issue faced by Salvation Army workers across the country.
“We know that it’s an ongoing issue and sometimes, in some places around the country, we’ve put some CCTV cameras and been able to see what the behaviour of people constitutes in these situations,” he said.
