Golf club grog heist

A BRAZEN New Year’s theft has seen hundreds of dollars worth of alcohol stolen from the Balranald Golf Club.

Sometime between 6pm on Wednesday, December 30 and 1.30pm on Thursday, December 31, the cool room at the O’Connor Street golf club was broken into and a large quantity of cans were taken.

Four cartons of Bundaberg Rum cans, four cartons of Jim Beam cans and two cartons of Johnnie Walker Red cans were stolen and appear to have been transported away in the club in wheelie bins.

The Balranald Football Club operate the golf club bar and the stolen alcohol had recently been transferred from the footy club premises to the golf club.

“We thought [we would transfer it] for safety reasons,” said football club secretary Jeff Mannix.

“But because of the golf club’s situation, stuck out in the middle of nowhere … it’s easily accessible.

“There wasn’t too much damage but they have broken into a previous break in spot.”

There are security cameras at the golf club but Mr Mannix said the camera batteries had been flat for about a month and had yet to be replaced.

Balranald police are investigating the theft and have called for anyone with information to contact either the Balranald police station on 5020 1404 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
