Swan Hill stocks crowd in festive Sonic race meet

SWAN Hill Motor Racing Club held the Mallee Masters Street Stock feature race on Sunday night at Sonic Speedway and the large crowd that turned up were treated to a fantastic show by all classes that raced.

The V8 Super Modifieds anticipated some great racing but during the heats, Esther Thomson hit the wall and rolled her car.

The Ewart brothers were looking good on the track when suddenly Jordy lost a wheel — while Jade’s car had a few problems — which only left Duane Cordina and the Farrers to finish the heat.

As a result a final was not held for this class.

The women’s classes put on some great racing.

Zoe Salau was too good all night and came home first followed by Taleah Dolic.

Standard Saloons had a great night of racing as well. Visiting driver Sean Connolly was looking good in the first heat but our local Leighton Warburton had other ideas and took the flag in the final followed by Sean Connolly and Daryl Mesley.

The Mallee Master Street Stocks put on one of the best shows of racing.

Brad McClure, Mick Dann and Morris Ahearn were some of the top drivers who fought it out all night and you wouldn’t have picked who would take the flag.

The front position changed a few times during the 30 laps but McClure was looking like the man to beat.

There were no major accidents during the final but there were a few stoppages.

With a few laps to go, McClure was heavily chased by Morris Ahearn, Mick Dann and Brooke Fergusson with the rest of the fourteen cars that finished the race spread out around the track.

The white flag for last lap was displayed to the drivers and McClure was in front, with Ahearn resting on the back of the car when McClure went a little high down the back straight which allowed Morris to take him on the inside.

With two corners to go they were alongside each other, but Ahearn was too good and took the flag with a race time of 15.07.207, while McClure finished with 15.07.237.

The next Sonic Speedway race date is the January 9, showcasing Formula 500 Stampede Series Round featuring local driver TJ Beasy.
