Jacob reaches special milestone

WHEN Yvonne McLennan raised her glass at her son Jacob’s 18th birthday party, she found herself in awe of her son who had surpassed so much to receive his birthday toast.

Born with cerebral palsy, general medical opinion was that Jacob wouldn’t make it home from the hospital

The challenges snowballed as Jacob grew older and consistently defied the doctors’ predictions, beating both liver and kidney failure against all odds.

Jacob’s birthday party last Saturday was a celebration in every sense of the word, with family and friends converging on Swan Hill Club from all over the state, and one even coming from Western Australia.

The highlight was a slideshow packed full of photos – baby Jacob with the Royal Flying Doctors, Jacob riding his horse Tinkerbell, Jacob with his sister Taylor before her debutante – to the sounds of Jacob’s favourite singer Miley Cyrus.

But despite his taste in music, proud Yvonne says Jacob is the best behaved 18-year-old in Swan Hill.

“He’s probably the only 18-year-old who hasn’t been to Barrells,” she says with a smile.
