TAKING up bowling with the use of a mechanical arm does not spell the beginning of the end.
That’s the message from Swan Hill’s Graham Edwards who has been chosen for Victoria’s state bowling arm team to take on South Australia and New South Wales in a tri-series next month.
Edwards said he has been using a bowling arm for about three years following a back injury.
“Some people are hesitant to take it on but you’ve got to take the bull by the horns,” he said.
“In a lot of cases it can be the start of a bowler’s career.”
Edwards advanced further in the state selection process this season after first putting his hand up last year.
He said he was the first bowler selected from the Swan Hill region, but with acceptance of bowling arms growing he was unlikely to be the last.
“Next year Queensland is joining, and Tasmania and New Zealand have shown interest, too,” he said.
“Our instructor says it could turn international fairly quickly.”
